Dorothy E. (Mrs. Frank) Burmeister, 92, Long Grove, died Tuesday morning, July 21, 2009 at Riverview Manor, Pleasant Valley.

Mrs. Burmeister was born Dorothy Emma Witt, August 8, 1916 in rural Scott County, near McCausland. She was the daughter of Herman and Mary (Roessel) Witt. Following graduation from high School, she attended teachers college. On April 14, 1937, Dorothy was united in marriage to Frank Burmeister in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. The couple farmed in Wisconsin for several years, prior to moving back to Iowa. They farmed in rural Scott County and raised their family of eight children which included two sets of twins. Frank preceded Dorothy in death April 21, 1997 following 60 years of marriage.

She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, and was also a member of C.A.S.I., the Golden Anniversary Club, the Loyal Order of Moose and Mothers of World War II. Dorothy also enjoyed playing cards, puzzles, gardening, home and family.

Surviving are her children, Robert (Jan), Long Grove, Jean (Dale) Jacobs, Chicago Heights, Illinois, Joyce (Stan) Fox, San Diego, California, Linda (Paul) Stradt, Davenport, Dale (Doris), Long Grove, Raymond (Linda), Eldridge, and Judy (John) VanDeWoestyne, Geneseo; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Hogue, Aledo, Illinois, and Ethel Hooks, Moline, Illinois; brothers, Harvey Witt, Wheatland and Walter Witt, Long Grove.

Preceding Dorothy in death in addition to her husband were a son David in 1965, her parents, sisters, Rose Ewoldt and Esther Peterson and brothers, Francis and John.

Visitation will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge, from 9:00 until 10:15 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2009. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Church with the Rev. Jodi Hinrichs officiating. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
