BETTENDORF -- Dr. A. E. "Ed" Lampe, a resident of Bettendorf, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, in Davenport of natural causes.

Following his wishes his body was deeded to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program for medical research. Celebration of Life Memorial Services and a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. Lampe will be noon Saturday, Dec. 6, at Christ the King Chapel on the campus of St. Ambrose University, Davenport. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

He was born June 25, 1930, in Bellevue, Iowa, a son of Arion E. and Mary A. (Heiar) Lampe. Dr. Lampe attended Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa, for three years. He then attended University of Iowa College of Dentistry, graduating with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1956. He practiced dentistry for two years in the United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged with a rank of Captain. Dr. Lampe practiced Dentistry in Davenport from 1958 through 1988 when he retired to his hobbies.

On Dec. 27, 1954, he happily married Therese Marie "Katie" McCarron in Dubuque.

Dr. Lampe was an active member of Serra Club and many other religious organizations. He was also a life long active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He also had life time memberships in American Dental Associations and Scott County, and Davenport District Dental Society. He was a former member of the Elks and the Moose Lodges. He had many hobbies but most of all he loved to be with his children and grandchildren. No matter what needed to be done, he was always there to help his family. He loved to work with his hands and would always say, "there is nothing you cannot do if you try hard enough and really want to do it."

He was dedicated to his wife, children and grandchildren.
