Kilby, William James - William James Kilby, youngest son of William and Rhoda Kilby, was born at Long Grove, Scott County, Iowa on March 4, 1868.
At the age of 72 years and 8 days, he passed away at his home on March 12 [1940] during an illness caused by cerebral hemorrage. One brother and two sisters died in infancy; Alfred and Ellen in England and Alice at Long Grove.
At the age of seven he came with his parents to Lenox which was at that time a very small town. The early years of his life were spent on a farm 4 miles west of Lenox.
He was united in marriage to Frances Hockabout on Feb. 12, 1891. Six children were born: Leslie J., Mae, Ruth, Vera. Bernice and Glen William. His father and mother and son, Glen, preceded him in death.
His married life was spent on a farm west of Lenox until 1917 when the family came to Lenox where they have since resided. At the age of 19 he united with the Christian church at Blue Grove and was a member of that church until 1937 when he transferred his membership to the Church of Christ in Lenox.
He is survived by his wife, one son and daughter-in-law, four daughters, eight grandchildren land five great grandchildren, and many loving friends.
Funeral services were held at the in Lenox Church of Christ conducted by the Rev. E. F. Hagee, assisted by Rev. Shaw Thursday afternoon. Burial was made in Fairview cemetery.
