Two of Scott County's Pioneers Pass to the World Beyond -- Biographical Sketches

Two more old settlers have passed from earth within the past twenty-four hours. It was at his home on Farnam street, near the outskirts of the city, Wednesday evening, that James Lindsey breathed his last. While in Dakota last Fall, he sustained severe internal injuries from a fall from a wagon, and although he has had the best of care since, the final result of the mishap was death. Mr. Lindsey was born in Indiana county, Pennsylvania, May 4th, 1817, and came to Iowa in 1839, settling on the premises where he died. He was, therefore, one of the old settlers of Scott county. Previous to his settlement here, he had spent seven years in Rock Island County, Ill., having taken up his abode there first. In Illinois, he took an active and prominent part in land transactions in early days, and on removing to Iowa became the owner of vast tracts of land in and adjacent to the farm where he lived. He was a successful farmer, accumulating considerable wealth, and a valuable estate is left. The deceased leaves a wife and two sons, one residing in Dakota, and the other, Charles, at home. This closes a life of usefulness and good deeds.

The funeral will be held from St. Marguerite's Church, at 9 o'clock this morning. Members of the Old Settlers' Society are invited to attend.
