Pioneer Taken In Death After A Long Illness

F. W. Mock Succumbs at the Age of 74 Years, Heart Trouble.

The death this morning of F. William Mock at his residence, 719 East Fourteenth street, marks the departure of another of the sturdy pioneers of Scott county. He had been in failing health since the first of the year but had only been confined to his bed for the past month; the end coming abruptly at 6:20 a.m. as the result of extreme weakness accompanied by a bad heart complication.

F. William Mock was born in Hampton, Illinois, on April 3, 1850, and moved with his parents to a farm near Davenport when eight years of age. He has lived in this vicinity all his life and will be remembered and missed by a large majority of the older residents of the county. He was married to Amanda King who survives him, in Rock Island, Ill., in 1875. Of this union were born two children, Amelia (Mrs. H. A. Carroll of 719 East Fourteenth street) and George of Rowley, Iowa. During the active part of his life Mr. Mock was engaged in farming, retiring and moving into Davenport about 1894.

Mr. Mock was one of the oldest members of what is now the Sacred Heart parish, having been a communicant for more than fifty years, and also being a member of the Holy Name society. He was always an active worker, taking a keen interest in civic affairs and intererested in anything that would help to make a bigger and better city. He was known as a generous giver, a loving husband and father, and blessed with that old fashioned hospitality and kindness that bespeaks a good neighbor.

Besides the wife and children who survive him, there are thirteen grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Rogge of Seattle, Washington, and Mrs. Caterine Ball of Florida; and one brother, George, who is in Alaska.

The funeral will be held from the Cathedral on Saturday morning at nine o'clock, with interment at St. Marguerite's cemetery.
