John O. Gannon, 725 Kirkwood boulevard, Davenport, a resident of the city for the pat 72 years, died at 2 a.m. today at St. Luke's hospital after an illness of the past six months.
The decedent was born on June 11, 1856 in Rochester, N.Y., and came to Davenport 72 years ago. One June 10, 1885 he was married to Miss Catherine Eberle in the old St. Marguerite's cathedral by the late Rt. Rev. Msgr. J.P. Ryan. For 46 year Mr Gannon was employed at the Rock Island arsenal and in 1921 he retired. He was a life member of the Sacred Heart cathedral and was active in the Holy Name society. He was also a member of the M.W.A.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Christopher C. and John V. Gannon; one daughter, Mrs. Catherine A. Stolmeier, all of Davenport; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Christopher M. Gannon of Rock Island, and Michael Gannon of Davenport, and four sisters, Mrs Ellen Berrien and Mrs. Margaret Gorman of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Elizabeth Powers of Salem, Ill., and Mrs. Esther C. Berry of Aurora, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Halligan funeral home and at 9 o'clock at the Sacred Heart cathedral. Burial will be in St. Marguerite's cemetery.Source: newspaper (name unknown)article dated October 31, 1929
