CLAY

At cold spring Farm, three miles north of this city, occurred the death yesterday morning at 8 o'clock of Isaac Clay.

He was in his 73d year- born in Massilion, Stark county, O., April 20, 1816, son of Isaac and Mary Clay. His parents were among the earliest settlers of Stark county. He was reared a farmer. In his young manhood he and Miss Mary Goulding, also a native of the county, were united in marriage; this was in 1843. In 1857 the family emigrated to Springdale, Cedar county, Iowa, and lived there eight years. In 1865 Mr. Clay purchased the farm north of the city which became noted, under his management as the "Cold Spring Farm." He paid particular attention to the dairy interests and the products soon became in great demand in the city and in distant cities. And there the family resided, the family [?] happily, until the death of Mrs. Clay in April last. This bereavement affected the husband's whole being, for they had been companions for 45 years. He was of a strong religious nature, was a Methodist in faith, belonging to the First church in Davenport, and it was evident he longed to join his companion in the realms of endless life. Four children survive them - Isaac H., Henry N., Robert G. and Elenora.

The funeral will take place this (Friday) afternoon at 3 o'clock at the family residence. The interment will be in Oakdale.
