DAVENPORT -- Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for John M. Martzahn, Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2004, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport.Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.Little John passed away Monday, February 9, 2004, at the University Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, from complications of a heart transplant he had received when he was only 13 months old. John Mathew Martzahn was born December 23, 1991, in Davenport, the son of John and Helen ( Lanigan) Martzahn.
John overcame many difficulties throughout his life, and was able to touch many lives through his involvement and participation with such organizations as, The Make A Wish Foundation, The Children's Miracle Network, and the Festival of Trees Parade. Memorials may be made to the John M. Martzahn Fund, P.O. Box 103, Davenport, IA 52805-0103. Survivors include his parents, John and Helen Martzahn, Davenport; a sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Joe Henkel, Davenport; a niece, Caitlin Henkel, Davenport; his aunts, Anna Lanigan, Davenport, and Mary Lanigan, Oakley, Calif.; and a cousin, Kimber Ann Reisenauer-Maguire, Brentwood, Calif., as well as several other cousins.
Little John was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Ollie Lanigan and Henry and Joyce Martzahn, and a cousin, Mark Allen Lanigan. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the in-home nursing staff of Trinity Hospital, who, thanks to their loving care, allowed John to spend many precious moments and holidays at home with his family and friends.
