BELIEVED OLDEST SCOTT COUNTY NATIVE
Mrs Anna Frances Eldridge, 94, believed to be the oldest native Scott county resident, died at her home, 1404 East Tenth street at 6:45 a.m. today after a lingering illness. The home in which she died was built by her husband in 1874.
Mrs. Eldridge was born in LeClaire [Scott], IA on Feb 24, 1843, daughter of Lemuel and Mary Parkhurst. Mr. Parkhurst was a clerk on river packets for many years and, as an expert accountant, was engaged to close the books of the various river boats at the close of each year.
Mrs. Eldridge was educated at LeClaire and came to Davenport with her parents in 1863. She was married to T. F. Eldridge, the son of a Davenport settler, and the couple made their home here. Mr. Eldridge conducted a confectionery and restaurant at Third and Perry streets for many years and later entered the real estate business, building the Cora Lee Roy apartments at Sixth and Brady streets, and naming the building after his three children. The was the first residence apartment building in Davenport.
Mr. Eldridge died in 1908 after a long illness and two of the couples' three children also precede her, Lee in 1928, and Roy who drowned in Chicago in 1905.
Mrs. Eldridge is survived by one daughter, Miss Cora at home and one brother, Alfred B. Parkhurst of Davenport.
She was a member of the Pioneer Settlers of Scott county and a former president of the organization.
The body was removed to the Hill & Fredericks mortuary. Funeral services will be held at the mortuary chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday with burial in Oakdale cemetery [Oakdale Memorial Gardens].The Daily Times, July 2, 1937 p 22
