WORKMAN FALLS DEAD ON CEDAR STREET TODAY
Ernest Dhrig, City Employe, Stricken with Heart Failure

Ernest Dhrig, 51, of 2040 West Fifth street, a city employee engaged in improvement work, fell dead on Cedar street just west of the Rock Island railway at 10:30 this morning. Heart failure was the cause.

Dhrig, who was a bachelor living with his mother, Fredericka Dhrig, and his two sisters, left home this morning feeling fine, after eating a hearty breakfast. He had never complained of heart trouble and had not been sick in recent years. Joseph Richards, the foreman of the gang, called him across the street, and when he reached the middle his knees sank, according to Henry Dunklow, who walked across with him. The ambulance was summoned and Dr. J.D. Cantwell , who arrived a few minutes after the man was stricken, pronounced him dead. At a post mortem held at the Runge parlors at 12:30 today, it was found that Dhrig died from an internal hemorrhage resulting from a ruptured artery in the neck.

Dhrig was born Jan. 16, 1871, and worked for many years as a mail carrier. During the war he was employed at the arsenal.
