Funeral services for Thelma L. Speth, 85, of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2007, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. Mrs. Speth died on Sunday, May 13, 2007, at her home in Davenport.

Thelma Louise Sandow was born June 4, 1921, to Alexander W. and Pearl F. (Junker) Sandow in Sioux City, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She married Harold W. Speth on March 14, 1944, also at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mrs Speth was a 1939 graduate of Sioux City Central High School and went on to graduate from Midwest College of Commerce in Sioux City. In her earlier years she worked as a bookkeeper at Young's Dairy. She was active in Luther League and the USO during World War II. After moving to Davenport in 1943, she joined St. Mark Lutheran Church (a member for 64 years) where she was active with the women's Peace Circle, King's Daughters, and taught Bible School and Sunday School. She served many years as Secretary of Social Ministry. She co-owned Kopy-Right Printing for 27 years, was a member of B.P.W., Davenport Eagles Lodge #235 and R.E.A.C.

Survivors include two sons, Dan (Trish) Speth, of Davenport, and Dick (Mary) Speth, of Sparta, Wis.; a sister, Norma (Don) McMaster, of Edina, Minn.; five grandchildren, Sean and Todd Roman and Alex, Katianne and John Speth; two step-grandchildren, Brandon and Addison; and two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Zachary Roman.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth C. (Speth) Roman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the Handicapped Development Center, or Genesis VNA Hospice Association.
