The Davenport Daily Leader; Thursday, August 16, 1900:

McD Meeks

At 8:30 o’clock this morning occurred the death of Alexander McD Meeks, after an illness of one week. Death was due to old age. The deceased has lived in this city for the past five years and was well known, especially among the member of August Wentz Post, No. 1. G.A.R. of which he was a prominent member.

The deceased was born in Dunbarton, Scotland, July 8, 1822. For the past 20 years, however, he has been a resident of this state. His war record is one of which he may well feel proud. On the eighth day of October, 1861, he enlisted in Company F., Tenth regiment of the Veterans Reserve corps and on the fifth day of Nov. 1864, he was discharged by reason of the expiration of service. On the fifth day of December, 1864 he reenlisted in the Untied States army. This time he joined Company G., Twelfth regiment of the Veterans Reserve corps on Nov. 14, 1865, he was again honorably discharged from service.

Mr. McD Meeks was a member of the U.V.U. as well as the G.A.R. and he will be greatly missed from the local branches of both of those societies.

The deceased is survived by his wife and two children, John and Alexander McD Meeks. Eugene Larington, a step son and Mrs. Mary Solomon, a step daughter, also survive.
