A Sudden Death
James Lamb Found Dead in Bed This Morning
Discovered by Member of His Family at About 5:30 O’clock - Body Was Still Warm When Found - It is Thought that the Death Occurred at 5 O’Clock
James Lamb, a well known and respected citizen of Davenport, was found dead in bed this morning at his home on Eighth and Hennepin streets. The cause of death is attributed to apoplexy, but what brought it on is not known. Last evening Mr. Lamb appeared as well as usual and made no complaints of feeling ill. He had worked hard during the day, however, and much of the time under the direct rays of the sun. it is possible that the excessive heat undetermined his physical condition and was instrumental in bringing on the ailment which caused his death. The untimely death of the deceased caused a severe shock to the members of the family, who had supposed that he was enjoying the best of health.
James Lamb was born in Ireland in the county of Louth, 77 years ago. For the past 45 years he has lived in this city but previous to his residence here, he resided for a time in Pennsylvania. Mr. Lamb was formerly engineer at the old Burtis house and later at the St. James hotel. He was a hard working man and had the respect of all who knew him. His many excellent qualities endeared him to his numerous acquaintances.
The deceased is survived by a wife and the following children; Michael, Matt, William, Joseph, Myrt and James Lamb, Mrs. Stubbe, Mrs. Burkholder, Miss Ella Lamb, Miss Liza Lamb and Mrs. Everett. With the exception of Mrs. Everett, who lives in Omaha, all the children are residents of this city.
The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock from St. Mary’s church. The interment will be at the Holy Family cemetery.
