Kloppenburg
At 5:30 Friday night occurred the death of Mrs. G. Kloppenburg at the residence of Samuel Baughman, two miles east of Long Grove on the Dubuque road. The fatal illness was of short duration. Deceased was taken down a week ago last Sunday with liver complaint and never recovered.
She was born in Wilstar, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Sept. 14, 1824, and came to this country with her husband Detlef Kloppenburg in 1848. They located upon their arrival on a farm six miles northwest of Davenport near the Blue Grass road.
Deceased was the mother of seven children, four of which are still alive. They are Mrs. Peter Thomas of Big Rock, Mr. John Kloppenburg of Dysart, Ia., Mrs. Mary Kessler, Mrs. Teressa Baughman. She also has a brother, Michael Battenob, who resides six miles northwest of this city.
The funeral will be Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock with interment at Mount Joy cemetery.
Died - Kloppenberg [sic], Mrs. G. - at 5 o’clock Feb. 7 at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Sam’l. Baughman, aged 71 years, 5 months and 24 days. Funeral Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock from Mrs. Baughman’s residence. Interment at old Mt. Joy cemetery two miles north of city.
