The (Davenport, IA) Daily Gazette; Thursday Morning, April 1, 1880:

Brownlie

The death of Mr. Robert Brownlie, of Long Grove, is announced in this issue of the Gazette. The deceased had been a resident of “The Grove” for more than thirty years and one of the most highly respected citizens of the county. Had he lived until November next he would have been 70 years of age. Paralysis had been doing its work on his strong frame for several weeks before his death. Last week, his wife died and was buried, but the good man knew nothing of it, for he had lost real consciousness several days before.

Mr. Brownlie was a native of Scotland and was a highly respected member of the Disciples church. Originally a radical abolitionist, he was an unswerving supporter of the Republican party from the date of its organization. As a neighbor and friend, no on knew him but to esteem and love.
