Davenport Daily Gazette; Wednesday Morning, May 22, 1867:

Birchard

On Lord’s Day morning, May 19, Miss Mary A. Birchard, aged nineteen years and five months, daughter of George and Elizabeth Birchard, of LeClaire Township.

Her disease was consumption which she bore with christian ____.

“Dearest Mary thou hast left us,
Here thy loss we deeply feel;
___’tis God that hath bereft us,
He can all our sorrows heal.”

“Yet again we hope to meet thee
When the day of life is fled.
Then in Heaven with joy to greet thee,
Where no farewell tear is shed.”

Sad Bereavement - Miss Mary A. Birchard, daughter of Mr. George Birchard, one of the “old settlers” of the county, whose death is noticed in another column, was buried from the Zion church, Le Claire Center, on Monday, Rev. W. Rutledge officiating, and a very large concourse of sympathizing friends attending. Miss B. was a member of the Bible Class and was much respected.

[note: Davenport Daily Gazette; February 13, 1845: Married - On the 11th inst., by Rev. H.P. GATCHELL, Mr. George BIRCHARD to Miss Elizabeth STOCKWELL, both of this county.]
