Davenport Weekly Leader (Davenport, IA); December 31, 1895:
Ternecek
Sunday morning at 7 o’clock occurred the death of John Ternecek. Some time ago, a tumor appeared upon his neck. About six weeks ago, an operation was performed to remove it. While the operation was successful, his constitution was not sufficiently strong to withstand the effects, desease [sic] having made inroads upon it. He gradually sank until the end came.
Deceased was born in Cleveland, Ohio, April 26, 185_? [appears to be 1855], and was therefore in his forty-fourth year. He removed with his parents to this city in infancy, where he has always resided. He was a printer by occupation and for many years was compositor and afterwards foreman on Der Demokrat until about 2 years ago.
He was married here Nov. 3, 1874, and leaves a wife and five children, John, Emma, Lottie, Gertrude and Josephine. Deceased was a man of strong characteristics. He was amiable and always made friends. To be his friend once, was to be his friend always. He was a member of the A. O. U. W. (Loyal) and also of the Herman’s Sons Sick Relief society.
In addition to his wife and children, he is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Josephine Ternecek, and six sisters, three of whom reside in Wilbur, Neb., and three in this city.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 o’clock Wednesday, Jan. 1, from the residence 132[_?] Ripley street, to St. Joseph’s church. Interment at St. Marguerite’s cemetery.
