A Well Known Scott County Resident Dead

Mrs. Catherine Duffy Succumbs at the Family Home in Long Grove

Mrs. Catherine Duffy, a well known resident of Scott county, passed away at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the family home in Long Grove. Death terminated an illness of three months. She was the widow of the late John Duffy, who preceded her in death on July 30, 1914.

The maiden name of the deceased was Catherine Gallagher. She was united in marriage to Mr. Duffy at St. Anne’s church, Long Grove, Jan. 31, 1882, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Father Thomas Smith.

Mrs. Duffy was born at Walnut Grove, not far distant from Long Grove, on Jan. 27, 1857, and was in her 69th year of age. She had lived her entire life in the neighborhood, and was generally beloved for her many acts of kindness. She was a woman of beautiful character, and always took a deep interest in helping those in sorrow and distress.

Surviving are four sons. These are Charles F. Duffy, Miami, Florida; James P. Duffy, Davenport; Bernard L. Duffy, Durant; Thomas A. Duffy, at home. A daughter, Loretta, passed away a number of years ago.

There are also five sisters and one brother, as follows: James Gallagher, Rock Island; Mrs. William Altfilisch; Mrs. J. B. Miclot, Davenport; Mrs. Theresa Nagle, Davenport; Mrs. Mary Nagle, Long Grove; and Mrs. M. J. Kennedy, McCausland. There are four grandchildren.

The remains were brought to the Fred N. Ruhl mortuary and will be returned to the family home tonight. The funeral will be held from there at 9 o’clock Saturday morning with services at 9:30 o’clock at St. Anne’s church and interment at St. Anne’s cemetery.
