The funeral of Miss Dorothy Smith, well-known Davenport soprano, whose death occurred several days ago terminating a short illness of pneumonia, was held from the late home, Friday morning at 8:30 o’clock with services at St. Anthony’s church at 9 o’clock.

The services were so largely attended that it was necessary for many of the friends who had come as a tribute to her loss to stand in the rear of the church during the entire ceremony.

Rev. J. W. Bulger celebrated a solemn requiem high mass assisted by Rev. R. J. Renihan, deacon, and Rev. John Moriarity, of Welton, Ia., sub deacon. Rev. J. J. Welsh and Rev. Paul Moore were present at in [sic] the sanctuary.

The entire church, augmented by many Davenport singers, sang the mass, and at the offertory Robert McGregor sang an “Ave Maria.” At the conclusion of the mass, “Lead Kindly Light” was sung by Mr. McGregor and at the recessional, the choir sang “Nearer My God to Thee.”

Father Bulger gave the final absolution and blessing and preached the funeral sermon, while Father Moriarity officiated at the interment in St. Marguerite’s cemetery.

The Daughters of Isabella, who acted as the escort of honor, were Mrs. A. Moellenbeck, and the Misses Pauline Caffery, Cecelia and Harriet Jessen, Regina Hart, Catherine Harney, Helena Mitchell and Margaret Conwell.

The pallbearers were Ned McDonald, Sam Sample, Charles Stuchmer, Walter Dunn, John Kelley and Darell Doyle.
