Two Wills

The Final Distributions of Fortunes Amassed by Two Old Citizens -- Where the Money Goes.

Yesterday two wills were opened and publicly read, according to law, in the office of the Circuit Clerk. Some of their provisions are of general interest.

The following is a copy of the last testament of the late Peter Littig:

In the name of God, amen.

I, Peter Littig, of the city of Davenport, Scott county, Iowa, being weak in body, but of sound mind, perfect memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following. That is to say:

First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Mary Littig, all the household furniture that I may die possessed of; and also I give and bequeath unto my said wife one-third (1/3) of a promissory note this day given by my son, Peter Littig, Jr., for the sum of two thousand dollars, due in ten years from this date, with interest at 0 (?) per cent, per annum, payable semi-annually to my son John Littig, to whom said note is payable as trustee for myself and my heirs.

I do also give and bequeath unto my son John Littig, daughters Mary, Rosella, Alandrienne, Augusta, Sophia and Margaret the shares as set forth in the memorandum hereunto annexed all the rest and residue of said $10,000 note, which said legacies or sums of money I will and order to be paid in six months after said note of $10,000 shall mature.

I further will and order that in case I die before the maturity of said $10,000 note that one-third of all interest thereof shall be paid semi-annually to my wife, Mary Littig, and the other two-thirds to my said sons.

And my said daughters, and lastly as to all the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate whatsoever, after payment of all my just debts, I give and bequeath the same to my beloved wife, Mary Littig.

John Littig is appointed sole executor of the will. The will bears date of March, 1860, and is witnessed by Frank Plamer and T. H. Granz.
