James Johnston shows up in the Marshalltown Soldier's home in I believe, the 1910 and 1920 censuses. He shows being a widower and is 71 in 1910 if I am remembering correctly. I am at work so I don't have my notes.

James is evidently Andrew(?) and Massy Johnston's son as they show up together in earlier censuses together.

You said that records were destroyed - are there any church records available for that period of time?

If Melinda is indeed my father's great aunt, her mother Mercy was married to Amos Dart at that time and Mercy and Amos lived in Dover, Pocahontas County and also later in Fonda. I haven't started to look in Poky but I will and have a genealogist friend who lives there; also my father's first cousin still lives in Havelock so I may be able to get some assistance.

thanks for your reply.
Stella
