Marcia Jane Hustedt, the daughter of Carl and Helen (Sokolowski) Ortner, was born on February 19, 1943, in Ida County, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic Church in Holstein, IA. Marcia attended and graduated from the Galva Community School District with the class of 1960.

On October 26, 1962, Marcia eloped to Idaho Falls, ID, with her sweetheart since the age of 13, Howard Eugene Hustedt, where they became wedded in Holy Matrimony. Together they were blessed with six children Regina, Bryce, Steven, Tamara, Matthew, and Kyle.

Marcia was active in the community with her parish St. Martin’s Catholic Church. She loved reading the Bible, learning about the Saints, and praying from her prayer books and prayed for anyone in need.

Marcia loved everyone she met! She especially loved having friends and family over to their home to entertain or to cook and serve amazing food. Marcia was a consummate nurturer, taking care of her soulmate, Howard, her children and their families, people in need, her garden, her home, her animals both domestic and wild. She loved to paint on canvas and with bright colors on every wall in her home. She was an all-star basketball player, rodeo queen, Little Miss Iowa finalist, farm girl, barrel racing cowgirl, golfer, beautician, gardener, gourmet cook, and the best homemaker! She had a touch of elegance in everything she did from the clothing and jewelry she wore to the decorations she displayed…everything she did was just perfect. She was a true artist and creative spirit who had a marvelous zest for life.

The family she leaves behind to adore her memory includes her husband, Howard and her children Regina (Michael) Pick of Omaha, Bryce Hustedt (Jill Stebic Webb) of Odebolt, Steven (Diane) Hustedt of Ames, Tamara Uhl of Sioux City, Matthew (Jennifer) Hustedt of Omaha, and Kyle Hustedt of Chicago. Nineteen grandchildren: Scott (Martha) Sibbel, Cody (Marissa) Pick, Trey (Nikki) Pick, Marquette (Mitchell) Ryan; Brady Nickel; Halei, Sydney, Tate, Dane, Trent, and Emmy Hustedt; Taylor (Steven) Shaw, Trista Thoreson, Tyson Thoreson; Kennedy, Gabrielle, Garrett Elizabeth, and Mia Hustedt. Great grandchildren: Anthony, Ellie, Peyton, Paisley, Preslee, Rhett, Andi, Henry, and Palmer (plus two on the way). Sisters: Mary Ortner of Holstein, Avis Ortner of Washington DC. Niece: Deena Merten and great niece Catalina Merten. We all love her and will dearly miss her!

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Helen Ortner, siblings Richard Ortner, Beverly Ortner, Carol Berg.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donating to Marcia’s memorial fund, the proceeds will be used to benefit the Odebolt Community Center.
