Hangs Self from Porch with Sheet Former Nora Markley of Spencer Is Suicide
Mrs. Alfred "Pat" Nelson, formerly Miss Nora Markley who resided two miles south of Spencer, committed suicide Sunday afternoon at her home four miles east and one-half mile north of Ruthven by hanging herself from a porch rafter with an Improvised rope fashioned from a bed sheet. The lifeless body, swinging clear of the porch, was discovered by her husband as he returned to the farm home.
Mrs. Nelson left two letters explaining her act and asking forgiveness and the care of her three children. One was addressed to her mother, Mrs. Harvey Markley of Wadena, Minnesota, and the other to her husband. Members of the family would not reveal the full contents of the letters but it is understood Mrs. Nelson had been in ill health and had been Buffering with heart disease. It is believed she took her life while in a fit of despondency over this condition.
Graduated HereMrs. Nelson was reared on the farm of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Markley south, of Spencer, and attended the grade and high schools here graduating from the high school six years ago. She taught school for a short time and then married Alfred Nelson who lived near Spirit Lake. Recently the family moved to their farm at Ruthven where the tragedy occurred.
Mrs. Nelson leaves three small children, the youngest eight months old and. the others four and five years of age. Information regarding other relatives is meager, but It is understood a brother, Leonard, lives near Lake Park while another, brother, Harvey, was recently employed at a Spencer garage.
