Mary Ann Meister
September 14, 1933 - August 2, 2019

Mary Ann Meister, age 85, of Lake View, IA, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019, at the Accura Health Center in Carroll, IA. Mary Ann was born on September 14, 1933, to Anton and Loretta (Hinners) Grote in Carroll, IA. She was baptized in the Catholic faith and graduated from Breda High School.

On February 15, 1954, Mary Ann was united in marriage to the love of her life, James “Jim” Meister in Arcadia, IA. She became his right hand farm hand, helping in any way she could on the farm, all while raising six children: Ray, Mary Lou, Ron, Rick, Monica, and Rod.

Mary Ann was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake, active in the Guild serving on the funeral lunch committee for many years, and was a faithful prayer chain member. She enjoyed playing cards (especially with her card club), had a large garden, and liked growing flowers. She was a 4-H leader for many years. Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who cherished spending time with her family. She treasured her kids and grandkids, and loved to attend all their activities. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Jim Meister of Lake View; her children: Ray (Mary Jo) Meister of West Des Moines, IA, Mary Lou (Jim) Dopheide of Carroll, IA, Ron Meister (special friend Jean Lamaak) of Pomeroy, IA, Rick (Jackie) Meister of Lake View, IA, Monica Meister of Oak Forest, IL, and Rod Meister of Lake View, IA; 16 grandchildren: Melanie Meister Lenius, Christina and Jonathan Meister; Justin and Jason Dopheide and Lisa Knebel; Matt, Sarah, Nathan, and Aaron Meister; Joshua, Jacob, and Jared Meister; and Blake, Teegin and Nick Meister; 18 great-grandchildren: Brecken Lenius, Madi and Charli Dopheide, McKenzie Knebel, Micah Mitchell, Jack Dopheide, Coy, Emerson, Harper, and Trice Meister, Keyah Sease, Laila, Hadley, Errett, Keely Meister, Madelynn, Connor Linton, and Noah Meister. Other survivors include her siblings: Arnie (Marilyn) Grote of Wall Lake, IA, Leo (Lois) Grote of Wall Lake, IA, Mike Grote of Moville, IA, Walt (Kathy) Grote of Wall Lake, IA, and Luella (Bob) Wilwerding of Defiance, IA; sisters-in-law Delores Thompson of Lake View, IA and Ruth Meister of Lake View, IA; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Loretta Grote; parents-in-law Edward and Elizabeth Meister; brother Tony Grote; brothers-in-law: Raymond Meister, Darrell Meister, Dale Meister, Roger O’Tool, and Shorty Thompson; sisters-in-law: Lillian Meister and Janet Grote; granddaughter Holly Meister.
