Buried Here Easter Sun
Funeral services were held from the Mattes Funeral home Sunday afternoon, April 9, 1950, for Mrs. Emma Engberg, 85, a former resident of Odebolt. The Rev. H. M. Burns officiated. Mrs. Robert Mason sang accompanied by Mrs. Charles Rector.
Pallbearers were LeRoy Lundblad, Lloyd Lundblad, Leonard Lundblad, Sidney Salmonson, George Noyd, and Arvid Huldeen. Burial was at the Odebolt Cemetery.
Emma Stolt was born at Andover, 111. Feb. 22, 1865. She came with her parents to Boone, Iowa in 1868 and in 1876 they moved to Sac county where she resided most of her life. She is the last member of the family of William and Margaret Stolt who moved to Wheeler township in 1876 and was among the first citizens of this Odebolt community. In 1882 she married Mons Mellberg. To this union were born four children: Arwin, Vernon, Minnie, and Will. All these have preceded her in death except Will, who resides at Richmond, Calif.
In 1893 Mr. Mellberg died and 1895 she was married to John F. Engberg of Kiron. To this union, six children were born: Royce, who died in 1925; Laura Young, with whom she has made her home in Sioux Falls; Even, of Los Angeles; Chrystal Sager of Sumner, Wash; Julian, who died in infancy; and Curtis who lives in San Diego. Surviving are also 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mr. Engberg died in 1908.
On January 28 Mrs. Engberg was taken ill and was admitted to Sioux Valley hospital where she improved slowly. In late February she went to stay with Mrs. Norman Nelson in Canton to be cared for. but complications set in that ended in death on April 6.
Out of town relatives who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Young, Sioux Falls and the Young's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Peters, of Lincoln, Neb; Mr. and Mrs. A. Dickison, Cedar Falls; Mrs. Charles G. Westman of Sioux City; John and Lillian Engberg of Kiron, and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Linman of Arthur.
