ODEBOLT, Iowa — Hilma Marie Fertig, 95, of Odebolt died Sunday, July 30, 2000, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, with the Rev. Charles Bulger officiating. Burial will be in Odebolt Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with family present 6 to 8:30 p.m. and an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m., at Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Mrs. Fertig was born May 20, 1905, in Chicago, the daughter of Julius and Anna (Anderson) Olson. She moved with her family to Arthur, Iowa, as a child. In 1918, they moved to Odebolt. She graduated from Odebolt High School in 1923, where she received normal training classes. She then taught country school in the Odebolt area from 1923 to 1929.

She married Eugene Fertig May 23, 1929, in Sioux City. The couple farmed near Odebolt until retiring and moving into Odebolt in 1967.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and served as secretary and treasurer. She was a member of United Presbyterian Women, serving as a former president, Wheeler Improvement Club, Eastern Star, Past Matrons Club and Tuesday Club. She served on the library board, Odebolt Fair Board, a 4-H leader and a band booster.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Dr. Kenneth and Janet of Sheldon, Iowa; a son-in-law, Bob Hall of Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren, Mark, John and Mike Hall, Scott and Steve Fertig and Susan Duffy; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Phyllis Ann Hall.
