Michael Babcock
Michael Willis Babcock, age 19, of Odebolt, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 27, 2007, near Mapleton, Iowa, as the result of a car accident.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 31st, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt with Reverend Albert Buelow officiating. Burial was at the Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.
Michael was born February 16, 1988, at Horn Memorial Hospital, Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Gary and Sharon (Neumann) Babcock. He was baptized March 20, 1988 and confirmed May 4, 2003, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt.
Michael enjoyed his life to the fullest. One of his nicknames was “Smiles” for his beautiful smile which he always shared. His easy going nature made him a friend to all. He graduated from Odebolt Arthur Community School this spring and was currently attending classes at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg majoring in Ag Business Technology.
Michael enjoyed working in his hometown community; he mowed lawns, helped several local farmers, worked at Farmers Coop, drove truck and helped his brother with carpentry projects. This all led to his love of farming and being outdoors.
Michael enjoyed collecting Breyer horses, tractors, Mickey Mouse mementos, and puppies. His favorite horse being Popcorn, who guarded his bed. He supported his favorite team, the Chicago Bears.
We miss Michael greatly and hearing him say his favorite phrase, “What’s Up?”
Left to cherish his memory include his parents: Gary and Sharon Babcock and his brother Troy of Odebolt; grandmother Donna Neumann of Rockwell City; uncles and aunts: Randy and Renae Babcock of Odebolt, Ted and Kathy Henrich of Wall Lake, Keith and Kris Babcock of Sac City, Richard and Deb Neumann of Sac City, Ed and Waunitta Neumann of Minnesota, Kathy and Ben Hammen of Rockwell City, Susan Neumann and Bruce Neumann of Griswold, IA; special friend “Grandma” Betty Eads of Odebolt; his very special friend, Jessi; many cousins, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willis and Dorothy Babcock; grandfather Merlin Neumann; cousins; Aaliyah Babcock and Gary Neumann; great-grandparents; Lloyd and Margaret Babcock, Fred and Anna Werkmeister, Albert and Elsie Neumann, and Harold and Leona Schulte.
