Vernon L. Vogler, age 83, of Grinnell, Iowa, formerly of Schaller, Iowa, died Saturday, November 22, 2003, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
Vernon Vogler was born on December 26, 1919, in Schaller, Iowa, to Adolph and Hedwig (Langner) Vogler. He spent his childhood in his parents home and attended school in Schaller through high school, graduating with the Schaller High School Class of 1938.
On November 3, 1941, Vernon was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country until 1945 when he was honorably discharged on December 27.
Vernon was united in marriage to Harriet Dunham on November 22, 1943, at her family home in Early, Iowa. Two sons, Stanley Vernon and Gerald Lee, blessed this union.
Vernon and his father partnered together in carpenter work. In 1964, he went into commercial construction.
On November 20, 1965, Vernon married Lois Downard of Russell, Iowa.
Vernon was a charter member of the V.F.W. Post 64704 in Schaller. He had the talent and the desire to participate in sports as a young man, and was a fan that enjoyed watching sports as he grew older.
Survivors include his sons: Stan and wife Ethlyn of Beverly Hills, Michigan, and Jerry and wife Toni of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren; three sisters: Thelma Fitzsenry of Storm Lake, Iowa, Lorraine Fey or Battle Creek, Iowa, and Deloris Mills of Hemut, California; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Vernon in death were his parents, and two brothers: Donald and Adolph, Jr.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 2:30 PM at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller with Reverend Brandt officiating. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery in Schaller.
Friends may call anytime after 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2003 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, where the family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.
