Harold Warriner, age 72, of Schaller, Iowa died on Friday, November 28, 2003, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, following a long battle with cancer.
Harold Elmer Warriner was born on August 5, 1931, to Elmer and Irma (Wetzstein) Warriner at Ida Grove, Iowa. He lived with his parents as a child on their farm two miles east of Schaller. He attended country school at Eden #9 through the 8th grade, then went on to Schaller High School, graduating with the Class of 1948. Harold was baptized on December 29, 1931, and later confirmed on December 16, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Schaller. On July 7, 1963, he joined Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in rural Schaller and was an active member, holding the office of Deacon from 1969—1971 and again from January 1993—November 2003 and was Secretary of the Church and a member of the Cemetery Committee from January 2000—November 2003.
Harold served his country from January 20, 1951, as a member of the Army Reserves until he retired on December 10, 1959, with the rank of SFC E6.
On May 22, 1955, Harold was united in marriage to Marilyn Miller at the Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Their union was blessed with a son, Duane, and a daughter, Linda. Harold was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who cherished the time he spent with his family. He was loved by his family and will be missed daily.
Harold spent his life farming and also driving truck and working at the seed plant north of Schaller. After he retired from the plant in 1996, he continued to help out at the farm. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and woodworking. Harold liked to spend time out of doors and derived great pleasure from gardening and watching and feeding wild birds. He and Marilyn liked to travel and had many fond memories of trips to Branson, Missouri, and to Canada.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Schaller; his son Duane Warriner of Schaller and his daughter Linda Westeen of Schaller; three grandchildren: Michael Westeen of Aurelia, Steven Westeen of Schaller and Kimberly Westeen of Schaller; two great-grandchildren: Evan Westeen of Aurelia and Ethan Westeen of Aurelia; one sister: Janette Forney of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
Preceding Harold in death were his parents, Elmer and Irma Warriner.
Funeral Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Rural Schaller. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller where the family will be present from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
