Obituary

Jimmie Edward Meadows passed away on August 10, 2022 in Indianola, Iowa. A visitation with family present will be held from 4:00pm-9:00pm on Friday, August 19, 2022 at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will take place at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Indianola.
Jim was born on September 19, 1936 in Kellerton, Iowa to Lowell and Paulyne (Poush) Meadows. After graduating from Kellerton High School, he attended Northwest Missouri State where he received his bachelor’s degree. Jim served proudly in the Iowa Air National Guard before he started a 31 year career as a pilot for United Airlines. After retirement, Jim started JE Meadows and Co where he did excavating work, and he also enjoyed farming; especially the trips to the grain elevator hauling crops in his truck. Jim was a member of Rotary Club of Indianola and a board member for TruBank in Indianola for 24 years. He was also on the board of Warren County Economic Development, Warren County Zoning Commission, and Warren County Condemnation and Compensation Committee. He and Miriam were yearly sponsors to the National Balloon Classic, which was very important to them both.
When Jim wasn’t devoting his time to work and his community, he loved to watch the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals. He especially loved his trips to Kansas City to watch the Royals. Jim also loved playing cards with friends and was a big fan of classic country music. Jim and Miriam loved traveling, taking trips to Branson and a very special trip to Nashville. He could often be found at one of the grandchildren’s’ ballgames or music concerts which he deeply enjoyed. Jim also loved and trusted the Lord deeply, and found peace and comfort in reading his Bible in the evenings. During the pandemic, Jim and Miriam would watch their favorite pastors on TV or online when going to church wasn’t possible. Jim was a kind man who gave so much to his family, community, and organizations he believed helped people live better lives.
Jim is survived by his wife, Miriam; sons, James (Pamela), Gregory, and Stephen (Roberta); step-children, Rick (Esther) Schmitz and Jennifer (Bill) Kim; grandchildren, Scott, Katie, Jessica, Bailey, Aaron, and Zachary; a great-grandchild, Elizabeth; and siblings, Joan, John, and Jean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Judith Anne (Coffey) Meadows.
Memorials in Jim’s name can be made to National Balloon Classic, Northwest Missouri State Agricultural Learning Center, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, or The Navigators.
