November 12, 1927 ~ October 29, 2017Helen Fern (Rinehart) Umbarger was born November 12, 1927 in Allendale, Missouri to Clyde Everett and Jewell (Whited) Rinehart. Helen graduated from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Missouri.
In 1945, Helen was united in marriage to Raymond “Shorty” Umbarger. In 1953, Helen and Shorty moved to a farm near Mount Ayr. While on the farm Helen also worked as a phone operator. They lived in Mount Ayr until 1976, when they purchased a feed store in Syracuse, Nebraska where Helen worked as the bookkeeper. They owned and operated the feed store until they retired in 2008.
Helen passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Clearview Home in Mount Ayr.
She was preceded by her parents; husband Shorty in 2016; three children, two children in infancy and Diana Farrell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law B.W. and Marge Umbarger; sister-in-law Rosemary Rinehart.
Left to cherish her memory are son, David (Linda) Umbarger of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Patty (Mick) Still of Mount Ayr; son-in-law, Bill Farrell of Clarinda; brother Donald Rinehart of Chula Vista, California; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Marge Umbarger of Fairfax, MO; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In memory of Helen Fern Umbarger services were held on Friday, November3, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Officiating was Pastor Mike Maddy. Her final resting place is at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Memorials may be left in Helen’s name.
