October 27, 1931 ~ December 08, 2017Edgar E. Robertson was born to Elvin and Florence Robertson on October 27, 1931 in Worth County, Missouri. He departed this life on December 8, 2017 at his home in Fontanelle, Iowa at the age of 86.
Edgar was united in marriage to Opal “Jeane” Reynolds on September 5, 1951. He entered the Army on February 13, 1952 where he served for almost 21 years in Japan, Germany, Vietnam, and the United States as a cook and military police officer. During this time, three children were added to their union: William (“Bill”), Kenneth, and Jeanette. He retired from the military on December 1, 1972. Edgar and Jeane were married for 51 years until her passing in 2002.
Edgar joined Delores “Dee” Carns in marriage on September 18, 2004. They resided in Diagonal and Greenfield until his death.
Edgar enjoyed many activities including fishing, hunting, playing guitar and singing. He took pleasure in being around other people and could frequently be seen attending dances in Creston, Greenfield and Mount Ayr.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Florence; brother, David; sister, Gladys; wife, Jeane; son, Bill; step-daughter, Nancy; and other extended family members.
He will be remembered by his wife, Dee; son, Kenneth Robertson; daughter, Jeanette Abrams and husband Michael; grandchildren, Joshua Robertson, Payton Robertson, Austin and Justin Abrams; step-son, Michael Carns; and nieces, nephews, and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later.
Edgar’s services were held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Pastor Steven Broers officiated the service. Eulogy was by Jennette Abrams.
Special songs were: “In Color”, “Ballad of the Green Berets”, and “Mountain Dew”.
Casket bearers were the U.S. Army Honor Guard Unit. Honorary pallbearers were: Kenneth Robertson, Payton Robertson, Josh Robertson, Mike Abrams, Austin Abrams, Justin Abrams, Mike Carns, Brad Newton, Chad Herr, Roy Lumbard, and Spencer Lumbard.
Military honors by the Morris Herrold Post 395, American Legion and Iowa Honor Guard Unit.
He was laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
