Obituary

On July 9, 2016 our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great/Great Grandmother and Friend (better known as “Big Granny), at age 95, went home to be with her Lord. She was born on January 29, 1921 in Delphos, Iowa to James Leander and Clara Utena Wells. She was the youngest of seven children and the last survivor .

She spent her younger years and attended school in Lesanville and Mt. Ayr, Iowa, meeting and marrying husband, Don Dillon in Mt Ayr in 1938. Four children were born to this union, Sharon Kay, Anita, Larry and Mike. Several years after Don’s passing in 1970, she married Walter James, a Dallas businessman. They enjoyed a good life together, traveling and spending time with friends. Some time following Walter’s death in 1989, she established companionship with longtime friend, R.O. Clark. They continued to enjoy life through travel, dance, movies, friends and family.

Big Granny accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized and recommitted as a member of Covenant Baptist Church of Mesquite

,Big Granny is survived by one daughter, Anita and husband James of Lago Vista (Austin), one son Larry and wife Marie of Mesquite, daughter in law Jimmie Dillon of Mesquite and numerous grand-children, great grandchildren, great/great grandchildren and a legion of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends

She was known far and wide for her delicious cooking, and had been Chief Chef in restaurants that she and Don owned. She was an avid seamstress. Crochet, embroidery and sewing were her passions. She loved the game of solitary (as she called it). Big Granny loved dancing, cruising and traveling throughout the United States.

She held a compassion for people and served many years working in the medical arena, primarily as a Dietitian. She loved unconditionally and passionately toward her family. Never having an enemy and enjoying a life free of conflict was her great example to her family and to all who knew her. Our hearts ache, and we already miss her deeply, but we take great comfort in knowing she is now totally healed, home safe with Lord Jesus.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff and workers at Seagoville Manner for the loving care they gave to Big Granny (sweet lady as they called her) over the past years.

We also express our most sincere thanks and appreciation to the highly professional nurses and doctors at Baylor Hospital for the care, love and comfort they gave to our mother.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 6 PM till 8 PM at the Gonzales funeral home, 1111 Military Parkway, Mesquite. Memorial services will be held at this same location at 10 AM, Wednesday, 13, July, 2016, followed by interment at Grove Hill Memorial Park,, 3920, Samuell Blvd, Dallas.

Note added by Ken Baker: She was the last surviving sibling of Mable Wells Hogue, Vivian Wells, George Wells, Treva Wells Waugh, Raymond Wells, and Beaulah Wells Bush.
