Funeral services for David Milton Sobotka were held Oct. 19, 2001, at the United Church of Diagonal with Rev. Karen Garrison officiating.
Music was provided by Judy Newton and Sherry Wiley.
Casket bearers were Mike Schaefer, Jack Stephens, Terry Moffitt, Kenny Schaefer, Chuck Klejch and Monte Starlin. Honorary pallbearers were Coral Sobotka, Lowell Schaefer, David Wiley, Bob Schaefer, Claire Newton and Alan Bentley. Military rites were provided by Morris-Herrold Post 395 American Legion.
Interment was in Diagonal cemetery.
David was born Dec. 17, 1934 at the family home south of Diagonal to Edward and Frances Caberet Sobotka. He passed away on Oct. 17, 2001, at the age of 66, at the Kavanagh House in West Des Moines.
David graduated from Diagonal High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. On Jan. 29, 1956, he married Lois Anne Allen at the Diagonal Methodist :Church. The couple had five children; Dan Edward, Brian David, Brent Ivan, Rhonda Lois and Darwin Gene.
David was a farmer and lived his entire life on the farm He enjoyed antique tractors, camping, woodworking, playing cards and farming. He was a member of the United Church of Diagonal, Diagonal Lions Club, American Legion, Morris Herrold Post 395, and a neighborhood card club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Dan Edward; a brother, Leonard Andrew Sobotka; a sister, Norma Jean Lumbard; sister-in-law Kay Allen and Mildred Sobotka.
David is survived by his wife Lois Anne of Diagonal; his children, Brian (wife Pam) of Creston, Brent of Diagonal, Rhonda Lohmann (husband Mike) of Des Moines; and Darwin (wife Michele) of Clearfield; eight grandchildren, Stacy and Travis Sobotka, Anthony, Cassidy, Madison and Josh Lohmann, Katelyn and Jacob Sobotka; brothers Donald Edward (wife Jorene) of
Beaconsfield, and Ivan Sobotka (wife Sharon) of Diagonal; his father and mother-in-law, Cecil and Lois Allen of Mt. Ayr; brothers-in-law Roy Lumbard (wife Nancy) of Creston and Willis Allen and friend Sue of Tingley; sisters-in-law Venita Schmidt of Hot Springs, Ark., and Kay Drake (husband Lloyd) of Mt. Ayr; many other relatives and friends.
