Arneal, James Duncan -
James Duncan Arneal, the son of Thomas Alexander and Mary Agnes Duff Arneal, was born October 30, 1889 at
Liberty, Nebraska. He died at the Lenox Care Center January 13 at the age of ninety-one years, two months and thirteen days.
As a child, he moved with his family to the Tingley and then to the Redding communities in Iowa where he grew to manhood. He farmed near Redding for many years as did his brother Bruce.
Mr. Arneal was united in marriage with Bessie Hoover June 26, 1912 at the farm home of her parents near Blockton.
Following Bessie's death on June 13, 1949, he moved to Lenox and made his home with James, Maxine and Steve in his newly completed home.
He was united in marriage with Anna Mae Casey at Lenox on June 7, 1952.
Mr. Arneal was an active member of the Lenox United Presbyterian Church and a strong Republican. He will also be remembered for his strong sense of right and wrong and his dedication to fair play.
Preceding him in death were his wife Bessie in 1949; his wife Anna on August 11, 1979; his parents; an infant daughter, a two and one half year old son, Howard Thomas; two sisters, Jessie McDill and Mae Arneal; and four brothers, Clark, Bruce, Arthur, and Reverend John Arneal.
Survivors include a son, James Arneal and wife Maxine of North Bend, Nebraska: a daughter. Mary Henderson and husband Guy of Lenox; six grandchildren, Steve Arneal of North Bend, Nebraska, Mrs. Tim (Janet) Johns, of Spokane,
Washington, Tom Henderson of Manning, Iowa, Mrs. Richard (Judy) Teig of Des Moines, Bill Henderson of Clearfield, and Kay Henderson of Lenox; four great grandsons and three great granddaughters who were his delight, especially Nathan James Arneal and Ty Thomas Henderson; and two stepdaughters, Genevieve Van Howling and husband Al and Marjorie Bray and husband Gene, all of Des Moines.
Services were held Thursday, January 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox with Reverend Don Fisher and Reverend W. H. Sinning officiating. Roberta Lockhart was the organist with Gwen Mavnes, soloist. The selection
was the "Twenty-Third Pslam".
Casket bearers were Harold Carey, Ralph Zabel, Kenneth McFee, Harold Beck, James Shawler, and Don Johnston.
Interment was in the Redding Cemetery at Redding, Iowa.
Larking-Bender Funeral Home of Lenox was in charge of arrangements.
