OBITUARY ~ WILBUR "BILL" PETER MILLER, ARKANSAS, DIES

Wilbur "Bill" Peter MILLER, 82, of Fayettesville, Arkansas, died Friday, July 17, 1998, at Washington Regional Medical Center.

He was born January 3, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois, to Walter Peter MILLER and Viola (SORENSON) MILLER. He grew up in Chicago and while working as a bookkeeper for Triangle Tanning Co. attended Northwestern University. He received received his B. S. in Education in 1942 and his M.A. in 1952. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in India in Bangladesh. He rose to the rank of captain and went on to serve 17 years in the Air Force Reserve as a major.

Bill taught high school for 13 years in Iowa, including five years as school superintendent. During this period he met and married his wife, Shirley, of 44 years. He worked 17 years for Mobil Oil Corp. in Cicero, Illinois, as Inventory Control Coordinator. He retired in 1978 to West Fork, Arkansas, serving as mayor from 1980-82 before moving to Fayetteville.

Bill was a member of the WRMC Auxiliary since 1983 and contributed over 10,000 hours of service and in addition was treasurer from 1985 to present. He was a life member of the NEA, a member of the West Fork Adult Club, Boston Mountain Illinois Club and the Senior Democrat Club.

Bill also was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was an avid gardener and reader. Bill will be remembered most, however, for being an extraordinary grandpa, father, husband and person.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; a son, Tim MILLER (Carmen) of Fayetteville; two daughters, Annette VERCHOA (John) of McHenry, Illinois, and Wendy EAMES (Donald) of Round Rock, Texas; a sister, Lorraine MAXSTADT of Wonder Lake, Illinois; a brother, Walter MILLER of Florida; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held July 20, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Fayetteville. Pastor Bob LUTZE officiated.

Graveside services were July 21, at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (For Children's Leukemia Research), P.O. Box 1818, Memphis, TN 38101.

Arrangements were by Moore's Funeral Home Chapel of Fayetteville.

Mr. MILLER will be remembered as a former teacher in the Diagonal school system. Hs married Shirley IRVING, a Diagonal girl. After teaching they moved to the Chicago area where he worked for eight years before moving to Fayetteville.
