James Monroe STOGDILL, 93, of Beaconsfield, passed away at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Saturday, June 6, 1987. He was the youngest of eight children, all of whom preceded him in death. He was born Nov. 11, 1893 in Davis County at Mark, Iowa.
On Feb. 8, 1914 he married Norma VEACH of Chapel, Mo. To this union seven children were born: Clifford of Trotwood, Ohio, Woodrow of Milton, Iowa, Ercil ALLEMBAUGH of San Bernadino, Calif., Nolan of Crawfordsville, Iowa, Glen of Beaconsfield, Iowa, Arlo of Des Moines, Iowa. Cleo MUNYON, the oldest, preceded in him death May 28, 1942. His wife, Norma, died Nov. 22, 1986. He had 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He spent most of his adult life in and around Beaconsfield. He was a farmer and worked on the railroad. Before his retirement he was custodian at the Beaconsfield school for 13 years.
Funeral services were held June 10, 1987 at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Douglas HARDING. Music was provided by Mrs. Jerry McALEXANDER and Mrs. Jim SMITH.
Casketbearers were Doug FROST, Jim RUDDICK, Harold FROST, Roe GREIMANN, Raymond JONES and Eugene McALEXANDER. Burial was in the Grand River Cemetery at Grand River, Iowa.
