OBITUARY ~ LULU MAY (ROBINSON) SALTZMAN

Lulu May SALTZMAN was born 100 years ago, on Sept. 7, 1877, in the farm house she still owned near Mount Ayr, Iowa. She was the daugther and only child of Alonzo W. and Kate KNODE ROBISON.

Mrs. SALTZMAN received her early schooling in Mount Ayr, and was graduated from Simpson college at Indianola, Iowa, in 1900, where she majored in music and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta social sorority.

On April 24, 1901, Lulu ROBISON and William Edward SALTZMAN of Mount Ayr were married at her home. They moved to Benton Harbor, Mich., where she and her husband, an osteopathic physician, owned and operated the SALTZMAN mineral bath hotel and sanitarium for 50 years, until they retired to her farm in Mount Ayr, where Dr. SALTZMAN died Dec. 24, 1954, and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. SALTZMAN remained at her farm home until she broke her hip in 1957, at which time she moved to St. Louis, Mo., to live with her daugher and son-in-law, the late Dr. Byron BURY.

Dr. and Mrs. SALTZMAN were the parents of five chilren: three sons who died in infancy, one of whom is buried in Mount Ayr.

Surviving are her son, William Edward SALTZMAN, Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., and daughter, Lucille BURY of St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, many of whom live in the Mount Ayr area.

Mrs. SALTZMAN was a most remarkable woman, very cheerful, never complaining, with a very alert mind and good memory as long as she lived.

She died at her daughter's home in St. Louis on Oct. 2, 1977 after a brief illness.

Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 2:30 p.m. from Rhoades-Wilson funeral home with Rev. Arthur HILL officiating. Music was furnished by organist Mrs. Merrill PERRY. Casketbearers were Loren AXTELL, Clair WOOLLUMS, Robert SALTZMAN, Lial SATLZMAN, Richard SALTZMAN and Darrell STEWART. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Mount Ayr.
