OBITUARY ~ MAMIE M. (ELLIS) WHEELER

Mamie M., 5th child of John T. and Elizabeth Linden ELLIS, was born January 3, 1891 on a farm in Poe Township, Ringgold Co., Iowa. She moved with her parents to Mt. Ayr, Iowa at the age of 4 years; attended Mt. Ayr school, graduated, and taught in the rural schools in the county. She was married to Edwin N. WHEELER, and to this union was born 6 children: Orrin E. of Mt. Ayr; Lee M. of Los Angeles, California; Donovan E. who passed away in 1966; R. L. "Bob" of Des Moines, Iowa; Maxine McQUEEN of Des Moines, with whom she made her home; and Iona ANDERSEN of Escondido, California. They reared their family on a farm northeast of Mt. Ayr. Her husband preceded her in death in 1949. After her children were gone from the home, Mamie moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she became a clerk in Younkers Department Store for 23 years until her health failed. She was baptized in the Methodist faith when a child and continued that faith until her death. To know Mamie was to love her. She is survived by 4 children, 4 daughters-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one brother, H. B. ELLIS of Mt. Ayr and one sister, Pearl ELLIS, also of Mt. Ayr, two sisters-in-law and a host of relatives and friends.

Services at Rhodes Funeral Home, Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Songs Prelude: Among My Souvenirs, Jesus Lover of My Soul, and Old Rugged Cross.
