Thursday, January, 1950OBITUARY ~ EDWIN N. WHEELER
Edwin Nevada WHEELER eldest son of C. H. and Hattie WHEELER, was born August 18, 1889, on a farm in Ringgold county, and departed this life January 16, 1950, in the Greater Community Hospital in Creston, at the age of 60 years, four months and 29 days.
He attended the rural schools of the county and grew to manhood on the farm.
On July 9, 1909, he was united in marriage with Mamie ELLIS, of Mount Ayr. They established their home on a farm, where they resided until 1930, when they removed to Mount Ayr. To this marriage were born six children, all of whom survive.
Ed, as he was familiarly known, was an industrious, hard working man, who found no task too big nor too hard to do, and to do well. He will be sadly missed by all of his acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lena [sic - should be Lenia].
Left to mourn his departure are the wife, two daughters, Iona (Mrs. Clifton ANDERSEN) and Maxine (Mrs. Jack McQUEEN), of Des Moines; four sons, Orrin, of Mount Ayr, Lee, of Culver city, Calif., Don, of Ottumwa, and Bob, of Perry; three sisters, Mrs. Alice CAMPBELL, of Lodi, Calif., Mrs. Dwight MAIN, of Mount Ayr, and Mrs. Clarence HUNTLEY, of Diagonal; two brothers, John of Ottumwa, and Charley, of Los Angeles, Calif., eleven grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, January 19, at two o'clock, from the Rhoades Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Harold A. REEL. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
