Griffith, Mary E. Scott –
Mary E. Scott was born in Athens County, Ohio, May 28, 1852, and died at her home in Diagonal on August 4. 1916, aged 67 years, 2 months and 5 days. She was united in marriage to Orlando
Griffith on June 17, 1869. To this union was born 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. Two sons and one daughter have preceded her in death. Those still living are:—William of Ellendale, N . D., John of Merricourt, N . D , Arthur of Billings; Montana, Mrs. Walter Bailey of Clearfield, Iowa, Mrs. Will Roudybush, Mrs. Chas. Huss, and Mrs. Harve Bailey of Diagonal, all of whom were at the funeral except John of Merricourt; N. D., who could not attend. One grandson, who had been raised by the grandparents was also present.

She was converted at the age of 14, and to place it in her own words as was found on a sheet written by herself, "I am a pilgrim here seeking my heavenly home. Jesus saves through his precious blood. Hallelujah! I was saved at the age of 14 and I was sanctified at the age of 25. Fifty years not a break in my consecration. Jesus has kept me under the precious blood.” She joined the M. E. Church where she remained until a few years ago when she joined the Free Methodist Church where she remained and as the end of life drew near, she was most happy in her faith. Her death was very
triumphant.

She leaves to mourn her loss the husband, 7 children, 31 grand children, 2 great grand children, and a host of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were, conducted at the home by Rev. W. C. Kelley assisted by her son, William. It was her wish that her son would have charge and so he made appropriate remarks after the regular service. Burial took place in the Clearfield Cemetery where a large number of relatives and friends were present to hear the last few words spoken.
