Stahl, Solomon -
Solomon Stahl was born in Perry County, Ohio, March 25th, 1829. He was married to Elizabeth E. Guyton, September 6, 1855. To this union were born eight children, —John, 'William, Lauretta; Allen, Alletho, Mary, Dora, and Elmer. Of these, Allen and Mary preceded their father into the great beyond.

He came to Iowa November 4, 1864, and settled in Ringgold county, Where he resided until the time of his death. He suffered the loss of
his wife ten years after coming to this state, May 9th, 1874. He was married to Harriet E. Eckard September 27th. 1884. To this union
were born two children, Edith and Myrtle, both of whom survive the
father.

Brother Stahl has been failing in health for almost eight, years, but his strong constitution enabled him to be actually at work for the Lord and his family until September of last year when the chronic affliction became acute and weakened the marvelously strong body until death claimed him; Thursday, Feb. 18, 1915.

He was converted in 1857, and soon after united with the Methodist church of which he was a true and faithful member until the end; and not only was he a faithful member, but he was a faithful Christian. He held an exhorter’s license for years, and often occupied the pulpits of as church with such effectiveness as to lead men to repentance and to God.

He was a member of the Diagonal church at the time of his death. He was one of the oldest members of the Independent order of Odd Follows in the state, and charter member of the Mount Ayr
encampment. If he had lived until the 11th day of next month he would have been 86 years of age.

He leaves to mourn his loss the wife, the eight children, three boys and five girls; the two brothers, Michael Stahl of Diagonal and John
Stahl of Indiana; the two step-children, Mrs. Ensign Keller of our community and Mr. Frank Chivington of Oelwein, Iowa; the grandchildren and great grandchildren; besides the great company of more distant relatives of this large family, and great company of many near and dear friends to whom this good man had endeared himself.
