OBITUARY ~ DONALD "DON" OVIATT

Donald OVIATT, age 78, of Indianola, died on November 4, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines following a short illness.

The graveside service was held on Thursday, November 7, at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Pastor Jamie CUTLER of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church officiated the service.

The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Donald OVIATT Education Scholarship and sent to City Bank on 801 Main in Norwalk, Iowa 50211.

Donald OVIATT was born on August 15, 1924 the son of Guy and Marie (HAHN) OVIATT in Storm Lake. He received his early education from the Storm Lake Schools, graduating from Storm Lake High School.

Donald served his country honorably in the United States Navy during WWII.

He was united in marriage in 1948 to Ann TOOHEY at the St. Mary's Parsonage. To this union six children were born: William, Dan, Jane, Mary, James and Jean.

Donald worked in the field of education becoming a Superintendent of the Norwalk School where they lived from 1915 (sic) - 1988. [Don was Superintendent at Grand Valley Community School.] He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending times with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Ann of Indianola; children: William OVIATT, Dan OVIATT and his wife Sue, Jane SORENSEN and her husband Cal, Mary PENNINGTON and her husband Gary, James OVIATT and his wife Lori, and Jean KINYON and her husband Steve. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren: Aaron OVIATT, Donald OVIATT, Nathan SORENSEN, Ryan PENNINGTON, Adam PENNINGTON, Jackson OVIATT, Levi OVIATT, Jason SORENSEN, Brock KINYON, Bryson KINYON, Brogen KINYON, Carmen OVIATT, Blake OVIATT, Eric OVIATT, Coleman OVIATT, Jessica OVIATT, Nora OVIATT, Whitney OVIATT, Lora SORENSEN, Tara OVIATT and Rosanna OVIATT.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and one grandson, Eric OVIATT.
