OBITUARY - George Alexander TENNANT

George Alexander TENNANT, son of William and Christina [sic - should be Christinia] TENNANT, was born at Sperry, Iowa on December 15th, 1865 and died May 23, 1937. When he was about 4 years old, he came to Ringgold County with his parents to a farm several miles south-west of Mount Ayr. Later, they moved northward to a farm west of Mount Ayr.

On March 18, 1890, Mr. TENNANT was united in marriage to Miss Fannie L. RICHARDS in Adams County, Iowa near Corning. To this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters: Mrs. Edna ANDERSON of Mount Ayr; Carl F. TENNANT of Long Beach, California; Maurice E. TENNANT of Detroit, Michigan; and Mrs. Gladys PRENTIS of Mount Ayr. During the early years of their home life together, Mr. and Mrs. TENNANT and their family lived in Adams County, Iowa for 7 years; at Kirksville, Missouri for 5 years; and in Long Beach, California for 8 years before they came to Ringgold County. In the fall of 1927, they moved to Mount Ayr, where they have since made their home.

Shortly before his marriage, Mr. TENNANT was converted to the Christian faith. Soon afterward, he was baptized, and united with the Methodist Church in Adams County. He has always prized his religious ideals most highly, and has assumed his church obligations most faithfully.

Beside his wife and children, he leaves to mourn his passing: 2 sisters, Mrs. Addie KIRKPATRICK of Los Angeles, California and Mrs. Cora TRIMBLE of Mount Ayr; and 1 brother, C. C. [Charles Clifford] TENNANT of Norwalk, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church at Mt. Ayr, May 25th, Rev. W. W. BENTSINGER, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Mt. Ayr.
