OBITUARY - GERALD LEE "JERRY" WALSTON

Funeral services for Gerald "Jerry" WALSTON, 81, of Perry, will be 10:00 am Wednesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson, with burial in Junction Township Cemetery.

Friends may call at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson after 12 noon Tuesday. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6:30 – 8:00 pm Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made in Gerald's name and may be left for the family at the funeral home.

Gerald "Jerry" Lee WALSTON, son of Thomas and Cora (WEESE) WALSTON was born at Maloy, Iowa on May 14, 1925. He graduated from high school in Conway, Iowa in 1942. One year later he was drafted into the United States Navy where he served his country for three years, including the South Pacific. Upon completion of his military service, he attended technical training school to become a broadcast engineer in radio stations.

In 1948, Jerry married Janet ROBERTS and to this union five children were born. Jerry worked in radio stations in Iowa and Minnesota for 38 years, during which he also did supply preaching for the Church of Christ. Upon retiring, he served the Bagley Church of Christ as minister for 4 ½ years.

In 1990, Jerry married Martha DELP GODFREY.

Jerry drove school buses and special needs buses for 20 years until his health failed.

Jerry loved his church; family, especially the grandkids; playing golf with his golfing partner, Daryl ADAMS, and all sports. He led an active life and a worthy life.

Gerald Lee WALSTON died January 28, 2007 at his home in Perry at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 14 days.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers: Vane, Donald, and Verle; one sister Nina RICE; and one granddaughter, Alyssa Marie BOLTON.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Martha WALSTON of Perry, IA; his five children: Judy ARMBURST of Ham Lake, MN; Larry and wife Jackie of Sheboygan, WI; Dale and his wife Julie of Rochester, MN; Lisa and her husband Dan GRANT of Holmen, WI; and Scott and his wife Lynn of Rochester, MN; and their mother Janet WALSTON of Rochester, MN; four step-children: Calvin GODFREY of Jamaica, IA; Carla HILGENBERG and her husband Keith of Camanche, IA; Carol GODFREY of Ankeny, IA; and Martin GODFREY and his wife Kathy of Jamaica, IA; 13 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; two sisters: Hazel and her husband Ralph HOOVER of Fountain Hills, AZ; and Elsie PRESTON of Lenox, IA; two brothers: Elvin WALSTON and his wife Kathy of Kansas City, MO and Marvin WALSTON and his wife Mary of Waverly, IA; sister-in-law Thelma WALSTON of Bedford, IA; other relatives and many friends.
