OBITUARY - ERVIN RAY SPENCER
September 29, 1917 ~ February 6, 2011

Ervin SPENCER, 93, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Lenox, Iowa, died Sunday, February 6, 2011, at the Mill-Pond Care Center in Ankeny. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011, at Crest Baptist Church, 1211 N. Poplar, Creston. Pastor Chuck SPINDLER will officiate. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Visitation with family receiving friends will be 10 to 11 a.m. service time Thursday at the Crest Baptist Church.

Ervin Ray SPENCER was born September 29, 1917 in Caledonia, Iowa to Dora (PYLE) SPENCER and Samuel Owen SPENCER. He was educated in Ringgold county schools. On June 24, 1939, he was united in marriage to Roberta GUESS. Roberta died in 1955. On February 16, 1956, Ervin married Ella May (CARTER) COLE in Omaha, Nebraska and they made their home in the Newton and Colfax areas where he managed the Newton Maytag Dairy and operated a maintainer for 17 years for Jasper county. In the mid-90's, they moved to Lenox and in 2002 they moved to the Des Moines area. Ervin was a member of the Easton Baptist Church in Des Moines and formerly a member of Crest Baptist Church in Creston.

Survivors include his four daughters, Joyce (husband Bill) FOSTER of Estancia, New Mexico, Karla (husband Randy) RISHER of El Dorado, Arkansas, Donna (husband Cal) BROWN of Indianola, Iowa and Carrie Ann (husband John) HAYS of Radcliffe, Kentucky; two sons, Chuck (wife Marvis) COLE of Jolley, Iowa and Bill (wife Sondra) COLE of Anton, Texas; two sons-in-law, Robert ANTHONY of Des Moines, Iowa and Lewis McLEAD of Altoona, Iowa; 19 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Roberta; second wife, Ella, in 2008; two daughters, Ella Lee ANTHONY and Mary Lou McLEAD; a grandson, Ray COLE, and all of his brothers and sisters.
