OBITUARY - MAXINE F. (TERWILLIGER) SNEDEKER

Maxine F. TERWILLIGER SNEDEKER was born on a farm near Leasonville, Iowa in Ringgold County, on July 17, 1911, to Mack and Anna TERWILLIGER.

She was a teacher in rural school for a short time during her earlier years.

On July 19, 1932, she was united in marriage to Donald H. SNEDEKER in Grant City, Missouri. To this union four children were born, Norma Kay, John Mack, Donald William and Marilyn Elaine.

Maxine worked for the telephone company for some twenty-six years, starting as an operator and retiring in June, 1976, as a supervisor.

Previous to her time with the phone company and into the early years of same, she helped operate several restaurants that she and her husband owned.

Since her retirement from the phone company, she has enjoyed her flowers and gardening and has always had a great interest in wildlife, especially birds.

Her love for her family and friends was evidenced by her continued desire to help them, especially in times of need. Her passing will leave a tremendous void in the lives of her family and friends, but will be tempered by the fact that after her acceptance of Christ as Lord and Savior and subsequent baptism several years ago, she is not gone, but only away.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; mother and father, Mack and Anna TERWILLIGER; three brothers, Warren, Dennis and Doyle, and one sister, Ruth.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Norma Kay and husband, Gene RECTOR, of Northglenn, Colorado, John, and Marilyn and husband, Gerald CANNON, all of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and Donald and wife Judy of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Michael RECTOR, U. S. Navy, Karen VALDEZ and husband Manuel, TYhona BAKER and husband Steve of Denver, Colorado, Daniel SNEDEKER, Gregg CANNON and wife, Debbie and Tammy CANNON of Mount Ayr; David SNEDEKER and wife Becky of Omaha, Nebraska, and Eric SNEDEKER of Des Moines. Also, two step-grandsons, William Spencer POWELL and James POWELL of Mount Ayr; fifteen great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

So do not think of your loved one as dead --
For death is only a stepping stone
To a beautiful life we have never known,
A place where God promised man he would be
Eternally happy and safe and free,
A wonderfulland where we live anew
When our journey on earth is over and through --
So trust in God and doubt Him never
For all who love Him live forever,
And while we cannot understand
Just let the Savior take your hand,
For when death's angel comes to call
"God is so Great and we're so small."
And there is nothing need fear
For faith in God makes all things clear.

Funeral services were held December 28, 1990, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Carmen LAMPE. Music was provided by Mrs. Robert THOMAS and Arlen HUGHES.

Casketbearers were Burl STULL, Lyle MINNICK, John CAMPBELL, ROllin NOBLE, Harold T. GOLLIDAY and Hugh TERWILLIGER. Honorary pallbearers were Carl RIGGS, F. E. McNEILEY, Jack MOORE, Eguene MOSIER and Lee TERWILLIGER. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.

OBITUARY - MAXINE SNEDEKER, Mount Ayr

MOUNT AYR -- Maxine SNEDEKER, 79, of Mount Ayr died Monday, Dec. 24, 1990, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. The Rev. Carmen LAMPE will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr. There is open visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr.

Mrs. SNEDEKER was born July 17, 1911, in Ringgold County to Mack and Anna (MOSIER) TERWILLIGER. She married Donald SNEDEKER on July 18, 1932, in Grant City, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1983. She was a lifetime Ringgold Cunty resident and was manager of the Continental Telephone Company in Mount Ayr for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Norma Kay (Mrs. Eugene) RECTOR of Morthglenn, Colo., and Marilyn (Mrs. Gerald) CANNON of Mount Ayr; two sons, John SNEDEKER of Mount Ayr and Donald SNEDEKER of Des Moines; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
