OBITUARY - HOLLAND FOSTER

Holland FOSTER of Woodstock, N.Y. and Palm Springs, Calif., age 78, passed away June 12, 1984 in Palm Springs, Calif. He was born in Caledonia, Iowa, February 15, 1906, the son of the late Homer A. FOSTER and Beatrice C. HOLLAND FOSTER. Survivors include his wife, the former Dora RANSOM FOSTER of Woodstock, N.Y.; one brother, Keith FOSTER of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Ramona ANDERSON of Mason City, Iowa, and Beatrice BLAKE of St. Louis, Mo.; four sons, Dr. Norman H. of Englewood, Colo., Homer of Shady, N.Y., Robert of Portland Ore., Cappy A. E. Of New Windsor, N.Y., and one daughter, Susan NEFF of High Falls, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He served in the United States Navy, received a B.A. and an M.A. in Art from the University of Iowa, where he studied under Grand WOOD. He studied at the National Academy of Design in New York and The Art Student's League of New York and studied under John F. CARLSON of Woodstock, N.Y. He was a Kingston, N.Y. Kingston City Schools Consolidated Art Teacher for 20 years, retiring in 1965. He was a member of the Woodstock Guild of Craftsmen, is listed in Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in American Art.

His father, Homer A. FOSTER, in the 1920s owened and operated the Princess and Star Theatres in Mount Ayr and also owned and operated a grocery store. Holland ran the movie porjectors. His grandfather, Cappy A. E. HOLLAND, was sheriff of Ringgold County, around the turn of the century. He was author of the book, "The Ghost Town of Caledonia" and built the diorama of the town of Caledonia when it was flourishing, which is displayed in the museum in Ellston, Iowa, maintained by the Ringgold County Historical Society.

Funeral services were held at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 16. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Officiating was Rev. Ed KAIL; music was by Mrs. Merrill PERRY, Mrs. Jim JONES and Mrs. Robert FISHER.

Casketbearers were Homer R. FOSTER, Norman H. FOSTER, Cappy A. E. FOSTER, Keith C. FOSTER, Stephen N. FOSTER and Raymond P. ANDERSON.
