OBITUARY - CINDI C. (WHITE) SELIM
Cindi C. SELIM, 49, of Shannon City, Iowa died Saturday, June 24, 2000 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Born October 23, 1950 in Winterset, Iowa, she was the daughter of William WHITE and Lillian NORMANDIN. Cindi graduated from Orient-Macksburg in 1969. On June 2, 1968, she married Harold A. SELIM in Macksburg.
After marrying, they lived briefly in the Creston area, then for two years in Ames, then for five years south of Orient, before settling in 1975 on their farm south of Arispe.
After her formal education, she sold Bee-Line Fashions. For 30 years she worked as a farm wife with her husband, managing and helping to handle all aspects of the farm operation. Additionally, she has served as the Postmaster of the Thayer Post Office since 1994. For years, she professionally sang in the Cross Country Band and individually for many funerals, weddings and special events.
Cindi belonged to the Arispe United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, having served as the Past Worthy Matron, the Farm Bureau, the Iowa Pork Producers, working on their board of the State Porkettes. She also belonged to The Card Club and the Women Taking Stock investment group.
Preceding her in death were her father, William WHITE, a daughter-in-law, June SELIM and her father-in-law, Russell SELIM.
Survivors include her spouse Harold SELIM of Shannon City; her mother and step-father, Lillian and Everett SWEET of Macksburg, son Shane (wife Tahnee) SELIM of Afton and daughter Jodie (husband Rick) PETTIT of Ames; two brothers Larry (wife Jennifer) WHITE of Macksburg and Dave (wife Joyce) WHITE of Newton; a brother-in-law Richard (wife Grace) SELIM of Creston; sister Lois (husband Jim) STILL of Granger; and three grandchildren.
Services were held at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston Tuesday, June 27, 2000. Rev. Pam FARREN of Diagonal officiated. Cindi was laid to rest at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton, Iowa. A memorial has been established to the Arispe United Methodist Church.
