OBITUARY - MARY ELIZABETH BOYLES

Mary Elizabeth BOYLES, daughter of H. C. [Hiram Cornelius] BOYLES and Hattie SHEUMAKER BOYLES, was born in Rice Township, Ringgold County, Iowa, on February 5, 1897, and passed away at the Ringgold County Hospital July 15, 1988, at the age of 91 years, five months and nine days.

Mary was baptized by Rev. Arthur EASTMAN in the Eureka Methodist Church at an early age. Her membership was transferred to the Mount Ayr Methodist Church in 1922 where she remained a faithful member. She seldom missed a service until she became handicapped which was caused by a fall in 1977. She was church treasurer for many years as well as primary Sunday school superintendent.

She spent most of her life working in the local bank and in the county courthouse as Clerk of Court and Deputy Clerk of Court until she retired in 1969.

She remained in her home where she welcomed her nieces and nephew and their children, always keeping the old cookie jar filled for little hands to reach for all the cookies they wanted.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mrs. Ethel TOLAND, and one brother, Emory BOYLES.

Left to mourn her death is her sister, Mabel L. BOYES, and a nephew and nieces, who were the main part of her life. They are Mr. and Mrs. Robert TOLAND of Washington, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Don MEHL (Alice Mae TOLAND) of Kansas City, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. Bob RICHARDSON (Pauline TOLAND) of Lamoni, Iowa; Mrs. Irene TOLAND STEEBY of Tucson, Arizona; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce ROMJUE (Doris TOLAND) of Palm Springs, California; and Mr. and Mrs. Dean SCHREIBER (Amah Lou BOYLES) of Rever, Missouri, and 21 great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held July 16, 1988, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Samuel FRY. Music was provided by Doug GREENE, Mrs. Gary BICKERS and Mrs. Roger TRULLINGER.

Casketbearers were Neil TOLAND, Mark TOLAND, Arthur MEHL, Kenneth RUSSELL, Joey RICHARDSON and Dannie RICHARDSON.

Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
